FISHKILL— On a windy and sometimes rainy Saturday, local families gathered on the lawn of the Fishkill Town Hall to watch as children collected eggs. The hunt was part of the town recreation department’s annual “Easter Egg Hunt.”

“We came for community,” said Beacon resident Donna Pedersen. Pedersen brought her three children, Carter, 7, Julia, 2 and Lindsay, 1, to the event.

“I think it’s fabulous. I think it’s good to get people together,” she remarked while watching Carter as he was waiting to collect eggs.

The first group of children to collect eggs was the six-to 10-year-olds. The children waited behind a yellow line of tape holding their baskets. Each child was able to “find” eight eggs. Afterwards there were activities inside the town hall in the Town Recreation Center.

“They were having a sleep-over just for this,” said Kathy Weatherly about her daughter Kassandra and Kassandra’s friend, Emma.

“This event I love. Town of Fishkill Recreation is awesome,” commented Weatherly.

Kassandra was coloring a picture of a rabbit.

“Last time I came it was really fun,” she said about last year’s event. “This year I had my friend over. I thought it would be fun for her to come.”

Lisa Notarthomas from Wappingers Falls was with her family. Her eight-month-old daughter Annabelle was wearing rabbit ears.

“It’s the best town we’ve been to,” said Notarthomas about the event. She said it was very organized.

“Our older daughter can enjoy the Easter season,” she stated.

There were butterflies, pastel-colored balloons, daisies in planters and paper eggs dangled from the ceiling.

The next age group to look for eggs was the three-to five-years-olds. The children three years and younger and any child requiring parental help was the last group to collect eggs.
